The annual New Year’s Day Dip in Westward Ho! is a cherished tradition that dates back to the Victorian era. Each year, participants don colourful fancy dress to take a brisk dip in the sea, celebrating the arrival of another year. This event has become a cornerstone of the Westward Ho! community, firmly embedded in its history and spirit.

Leap into 2025 in the most celebrated art deco sea water lido! Gates open at 10:30am so you can be pool side by 11am ready for a big splash. Back again for 2025, this New Years Day dip is a family run event and completely free of charge! Every person that enters the dip will receive a medal and some sweet treats with BBQ rolls and leek and potato soup. This event is in aid of Paul Sartori Foundation and fancy dress is encouraged.

ST MARGARET'S HOSPICE NEW YEARS DAY DIP 2025

Take a trip to the Minehead beach to celebrate St Margaret’s Hospice 45th anniversary! As part of the ticket cost, you will a free hot drink after your dip. This year, if you raise £45 or more you receive a free bobble hat in the new surf blue colour.
 
If you’re in need of last-minute swimming essentials, head to our store in Minehead and speak to our manager, Jane! She and the team will help you get fully kitted out with everything you need for the big dip.

ABERSOCH RNLI NEW YEARS DAY SEA DIP

Registration: Participants will need to pre-register online with a minimum registration fee.

This event is not one to miss! Join the dash into the sea with Abersoch RNLI volunteer crew and local Coastguard teams to see in 2025. This event is open to all age groups and this year’s fancy dress theme is Nautical Madness so be as imaginative as you can! For the event, access is via the Yacht Club end of main beach or via the slipway at the Golf Club car park.

There will be two rescue boats in attendance to make sure the event is safe for all of those who enter the water.

This New Years Day dip is an annual tradition in Lyme Regis with hundreds of people in fancy dress turning up to run in the sea! The event is witness by thousands on the beach and gardens! You can get sponsored to raise money for the chosen charities: Weldmar Hospice care and Riding for the Disabled alongside Rotary charities or just turn up and take a dip.

Last year, thousands of participants flocked to Scarborough’s South Bay to take part in the traditional New Year’s Day Dip, with festivities officially kicked off by the town crier. This beloved event, organized by the Scarborough Lions Club, returns for 2025 and promises another round of fun in fancy dress.

Participants are encouraged to raise funds for a charity of their choice, with 75% of the proceeds supporting their selected cause and the remaining 25% used by the Lions Club to assist local community projects. This unique tradition not only celebrates the New Year but also helps drive meaningful contributions to both local and wider causes.

This New Year’s Day Dip tradition began modestly in 1984, with just 10 brave swimmers taking the plunge. Over the next two decades, the event grew exponentially, drawing thousands of participants and spectators each year. To date, it has raised an impressive £775,000 for various charities, showcasing the community’s spirit of giving and celebration.

Being one of the UK’s biggest New Years Day Dip events, its not one to miss.

The Saltburn New Years Day Dip has been a tradition held at Saltburn-by-the-Sea since the 1960s! The event was first organised by a small group of swimmers but has grown in popularity over the years! This dip is in aid of SARA Animal Rescue and fancy dress is encouraged.

Here are some top tips to consider for before taking the plunge:

Safety First: Always swim in designated areas with supervision from lifeguards or people in charge of safety if possible. If you know you get cold, consider wearing a high-performance wetsuit in the water! You can even wear your fancy dress costume over the top of it. Always check the tide times before jumping into the sea!

Warm-Up & Aftercare: After your swim, wrap up in warm, dry clothes! We always recommend one of our Four Seasons Changing Robes to wear as they allow you to warm up fast! Sip on a hot drink and nourish yourself with a hearty snack to help your body recover.
