The house that adventure built

The wet weather might be trying to halt your family fun, but don’t let it dampen your love of the outdoors. With a little imagination, you can bring all your favourite camping, climbing and seaside adventures inside. Get a little #SaltrockSoul in your home and enjoy the great outdoors without the downpours.

BUILD YOUR OWN TEEPEE

If your family camping holiday feels like a lost memory, recreate that sense of adventure by making a teepee at home. Create the teepee shape with some wooden poles then drape over some fabric or blankets. You could even pin the fabric to the ceiling, and secure in a pyramid shape with cushions on the floor. Decorate it with fairy lights and fill it with cushions – perfect for reading stories in at any time of day. The kids will feel as if they’re in a fairytale. Hot chocolate and marshmallows are optional, but come highly recommended!

EXPERIMENT WITH SAND AND SHELLS

Transport the kids to their favourite seaside holiday by adding some food colouring to a bag of sand and then layering up different colours in a jar for a rainbow effect. Finish the look by painting pretty shells and tying onto ribbon to drape along the curtain rail. Or simply attach them to string for a natural mobile or wind chime to bring the ocean breeze and vibes into their bedroom.

HAVE AN INDOOR PICNIC

Lay out blankets and cushions and enjoy a teddy bear’s picnic indoors. Unpacking a basket of delicious goodies will be half the fun for the brood. You could even put out lanterns so it feels like your favourite family camping trip.

SURF STYLE BEDROOM

Getting the kids to paint driftwood bedroom door signs will give your home the Croyde family holiday feel all year round! Attach fabric sails to small pieces of surplus wood to make mini sailing boats, or even paint surf slogans straight onto palettes for a cool wall feature.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Create personalised bunting by printing out snaps from your favourite outdoor adventures and using clothes pegs, hang them onto long pieces of rope or ribbon. Polaroid prints are perfect for hanging photo mobiles, too.
