Saltrock's Top Family Days Out in South Wales

Heading to South Wales on holiday this Summer? We've rounded up some of our favourite places to visit with the family, and don't forget to pop into our local stores, from Bridgend and Swansea to Ebbw Vale and Tenby, and we're also as further up in Cardigan and Aberystwyth!

Margam Park, a country park estate with over 850 acres of land, is the perfect family day out in South Wales. Just twenty minutes from Swansea, where you’ll find one of our stores, there’s so much to see and do – from a simple walk in the park and around Margam Castle or the Orangery, to more adventurous activities such as canoeing, kayaking SUPing and more with Margam Park Adventure. And if that wasn’t enough, it’s home to Go Ape – the high ropes course which includes the biggest Tarzan Swing in the UK, and a 6 metre drop on the leap of faith!

Located in the heart of Pembrokeshire, Oakwood is Wales’ largest theme park. Whether you’re looking for an adrenaline-filled day of rides, or family fun for everyone, you’re sure to have an awesome day. With rides such as Megaphobia, the original wooden rollercoaster, and Speed, a beyond-vertical drop ride, and the tallest sky swing in the UK, Vertigo, alongside the children’s themed attractions such as Neverland and Dahland, there’s no doubt you’ll all find something to make your day!

St Davids is said to be the UK’s smallest city! In Pembrokeshire, St Davids is actually a small village-sized settlement on the South West coast of Wales. Unusually built into a hollow on the coastline, rather than on a high point, St Davids is home to a beautifully constructed cathedral made in part from the local purple stone. In the Summer, small craft markets are held here, and it makes for the perfect day out, whether you spend the day wandering around the small village, or head out on a coastal walk.

This castle is a National Trust owned property near Camarthen. Suggested by our Camarthen store as one of their favourite places to visit in South Wales, Dinefwr is a Welsh castle full of history and and tradition, and considered somewhat mystical.  Visit with the family and climb to the ruins, go back in time to Edwardian life in Newton House, and take a stroll around the surrounding parkland.

Jump in a Land Rover Defender and take a tour around Pembrokeshire! Hop on the Classic Tour, which takes you to see some of the best sights around, such as Pembroke Castle, Stackpole Quay and the Green Bridge of Wales, and stops off in various idyllic spots for refreshment breaks and short walks. You can also choose the Ale Trail – an evening tour of some of the most idyllic pubs around, or decide to have a bespoke trip, which allows you to tailor the trip to wherever you want to go!

So what are you waiting for? Take the family on a trip to South Wales this Summer and visit some of our favourite attractions! Don't forget to let us know about your adventures on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!
