Saltrock Surfwear expands nationwide with The Range and reveals ambitious wholesale growth plans

Devon based value lifestyle retailer Saltrock Surfwear is accelerating its wholesale expansion when it launches nationwide with The Range later this week.

Saltrock has experienced rapid growth throughout its 29 years trading, with 40 stores situated primarily in coastal locations and a seasonal customer base.  The retailer has used data capture in-store to grow its ecommerce business 300% YOY and has built a year-round relationship with holiday makers online.  The successful company have been looking for an opportunity to expand its store distribution across the UK.

The Range opened their first store in Plymouth in 1989 and are one of the fastest growing retailers in the UK, with over 140 stores nationwide. Saltrock identified concession locations where their seasonal holiday maker customer lives year- round. The partnership has increased Saltrock’s store footprint by 50% with the addition of 20 nationwide concessions.

Stephen Harvey, Saltrock’s CFO says; ‘With this partnership, we’re setting foundations for future growth and the intention is to make the Saltrock brand part of our customers lives all year-round. Saltrock has built a direct relationship with our consumers and our coastal destination stores are where most customers first experience the brand.  We use our email program to introduce them to our brand story and keep in touch with social media, but we know that some of our customers just prefer to shop in-store.  By opening up a wider wholesale network we’re enabling customers to shop with Saltrock in-store all year-round at a location close to them’.

Angus Thompson, Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer added, ‘The Range was an obvious choice to launch our wholesale strategy with. There are clear synergies; we’re both south west based retailers who offer great value & quality. We’ve applied the experience and knowledge we have from retailing direct to our customer base, selecting strong product ranges we’re confident will work in the selected locations. As the program expands, we’ll be looking to develop exclusive product ranges for wholesale.’

Saltrock is looking to work with strategic partners to grow their distribution across the UK and make it a 12-month brand alongside expanding its own-retail operations.

Back in 1988 South African surfers, Angus & Ross, boarded a train to Cornwall looking for waves. Short of funds but keen to keep exploring, the enterprising brothers built a screen print and started selling surf-inspired T-shirts from the back of their Austin Allegro. The T-shirts took off and they named the brand after their favourite surf break back home in South Africa. Their travels soon took them to North Devon, where they found their #SaltrockSoul
