Here at Saltrock we design for the lifestyle we love –getting outdoors and heading out on adventures with the family is something we’re super passionate about. Still designing the clothes that you love from our base in North Devon, we use our lifestyle and favourite locations to inspire our latest designs - from picking out colours in the landscape, to using new patterns and techniques.
Taking inspiration from some of our favourite locations to visit, our Womenswear designer Djuane has created some new styles, fits and trends that will keep you warm this Winter while out and about, but kept the Saltrock high quality comfortable clothing that you know and love. Read on to discover some of her favourite pieces from this year’s Autumn Winter Collection, and the places she drew inspiration from!
Clovelly is one of our favourite places to visit – with the old fashioned steep cobbled streets leading down to the quaint village to reach the harbour, any difficulties walking down it are soon forgotten when you look out across the harbour and along the cliffs. If you don’t fancy walking all the way down, you can occasionally catch a ride in the Land Rover!
This beautiful village full of whitewashed cottages, cobbled streets and friendly fishermen gave our designer inspiration to create the ‘Clovelly’ Cardigan. The knit technique in this longline cardigan is coastal inspired – using patterns from fisherman’s nets and fish scales to create a two-tone effect, and the colours were drawn from the cliffs near Clovelly itself.
It’s the perfect knit to wear for walks along the coast with the family, visiting quaint villages and other weekend adventures.
Croyde – one of the most well known beaches in North Devon, it’s a hive of activity throughout the Summer months, with people coming from all over the country to play on the beach and swim in the sea. In the Winter months, although less busy, it’s still one of our favourite places. Whether you’re heading out for a surf or going for a walk around Baggy Point followed by a pub lunch, it’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon.
Taking the rocky outcrops which you can see along the coast from Croyde to Baggy Point, and combining it with the need to be wrapped up warm in the Winter months, Djuane created the ‘Croyde’ Zip up Cardigan. In deep burgubndy, with a geometric knit representing the land formations, the cardigan features a chunky knit, along with a hoodie and side pockets to protect you from the Winter breeze!
One of the most stunning locations around, Valley of the Rocks should be on everyone’s bucket list. Where Exmoor meets the sea, this is a place with stunning views, incredible scenery and a great coastal walk to take on at the weekend. Formed by a former extension of the East Lyn River, it is now a dry valley that runs parallel to the coast, with impressive rock structures, as well as the infamous herds of goats!
The incredible rock formations and geology were the features that inspired Djuane to design ‘Taos’ – our Longline Sweater Dress. Coming in both black and grey marl colourways, the different shades of rocks at this stunning location are represented in the dress. With features including a flattering crew neck, ribbed side pockets, ribbed cuffs and hem, this is a practical and stylish piece that keeps you warm and looking good – whether you’re throwing it on after a surf or heading to meet friends over a coffee.
Another of our favourite quaint North Devon villages, Berrynarbor is nestled in a valley between Ilfracombe and Combe Martin. With coastal walks that take you around the beautiful countryside, you can also head down to the nearby Sandy Bay, a quiet and secluded beach perfect for watching the waves and relaxing.
Our ‘Berrynarbor’ beanie comes in Teal, which was taken from the wintery countryside and seascapes, and also in Black, where the inspiration came from the surrounding rockfaces in the coastline around Berrynarbor. Our designer used the patterns in thick rope used in the nearby harbour to tie up boats to come up with the thick cable knit technique in the beanie, making it a super warm addition with a pop of colour to add to your weekend wardrobe.
A small village on the estuary where the Rivers Taw and Torridge meet, Instow is the place to go for beach walks in the afternoons, meet friends for a drink in one of the pubs, or head out for dinner in the evenings. On wintery evenings when the tide comes in, you’ll be treated to a view across the water to Appledore, and the reflections of lights hitting the water is something you’ll not forget!
Drawing on the blues of the sea, the relaxed lifestyle and coastal vibes of Instow, our ‘Dusty’ Draped Shirt was created. With a focus on the small details, this shirt has simple pearl buttons and a simple and subtle Saltrock logo, along with a draped back and a mandarin shaped collar which a relaxed and flattering fit that makes it the perfect thing to wear for a pub lunch or a weekend walk with friends.
A second of our favourite local beaches, Putsborough is a privately owned beach situated between Croyde and Georgeham that has miles of sand stretching out towards Woolacombe, clusters of rocks to scramble on and shelter by, and is popular with surfers and walkers alike. Head out with the family to fly kites, walk to Georgeham, or take a chilly dip in the sea!
Inspired by the blue tones of the seascape and sky, and designed to keep you super warm and cosy for beach walks and after surfing alike, the ‘Cedar’ Fur Lined Shirt is a previous best seller – you already love it, but we’ve brought it back with a completely refreshed fit to ensure it keeps you even more warm and cosy this Winter!
