Beaches, brollies and bonfires: Behind the Scenes on the Saltrock AW15 Photoshoot

The Saltrock design team are super proud of the new Autumn / Winter range for men and women. To show off the collection, which includes cosy knitwear, smart padded hoodies, canvas jackets and gilets, we rallied our creative, active and fashionable community to show-off Saltrock’s new styles.
Joining the Saltrock crew on our wild set were our Ambassadors; Big Wave Surfer Andrew Cotton, Trials Champ Andrei Burton and Climber Jenna Goddard, and Saltrock’s own supermodel Nikki Martin. We’re lucky to have good friends who work behind the lens too; photographer James Bowden used to work for Saltrock right here in Croyde, and local filmmaker Simon Cotter whose short film OfficEscape has just been shortlisted at the London Surf Film Festival.

The team could hardly wait to master the landscape in their new Saltrock gear, and Hartland Abbey and Blackpool Mill Cottage – both firmly in Saltrock’s must-see locations for all budding explorers - offered up the challenge in spades. Rugged hills, fields, streams, woods, cliffs, beaches and a beautiful rocky coastline rolled out before us, so we did the only thing that felt natural – built a fire, poised the cameras and let the adventure begin. Even the rain couldn’t put a stop to our #Saltrocksoul

Staying true to our roots, we hit the beach to shoot our eye-catching and super toasty hoodies and sweats. But, there was a quick stop when the Ambassadors spotted a sheep stuck in a ditch and piled out of the van to help. It wasn’t easy as the sheep was the size of a planet and soaking wet, but eventually they managed to drag the poor thing to freedom!

Once we arrived at the beach, we soon lost Andrei, and of course a few minutes later he appeared at the top of the highest rocks on the beach, on his bike. It didn’t take long for a crowd to gather and soon Andrei was clearing ridiculously huge gaps in the rocks in an adrenaline-fueled trick session.

We hung out with the Saltrock kids too. As always, lots more kids turned up than we were expecting and they all immediately scattered, jumping off dunes and face planting in the mud. We got them busy building a bonfire, toasting marshmallows and then as the sun set they piled on Andrei’s roof and van surfed home along the beach!
