We're pretty sure that Andrew Cotton's dream Christmas would include empty line ups, monster waves and XXL nominations, but while he's here in Braunton on a break from his travels we grabbed a coffee and found out he's up to this Christmas and what's on his dry-land Wish List this year.
"I love being at home for Christmas in case the surf is pumping! And there’s always someone in Devon spreading rumours that it’s going to snow – a few years back it came true and the kids were stoked!
My wife Katie likes to get a huge real Christmas tree so we have a bit of a laugh decorating it with the kids. Ace is 3 now so this will be the first year he’ll really have a clue what going on so that will be fun. Honey loves putting out the milk and cookies and carrots for the reindeer. We love a party at Christmas but a Christmas Day walk is always good and Baggy Point in Croyde is a great spot for it – unless it’s windy in which case you run the risk of being blown off the cliff!
There’s a fancy dress mixed footie match on Boxing Day every year in Georgeham which is a village up the road from where we live. It’s a sight for sore eyes, lots of big muscly men dressed up as ladies and women dressed as men all playing football while the kids are playing in the little park there, then afterwards everyone heads straight to the pub. Its great fun for all the family.
I’m hoping to get my hands on a Surfanic bodywarmer from Saltrock this Christmas. They’re ideal to throw on for a dawn surf check and are a good extra layer underneath pretty much any jacket. I like the Fuse Men’s Gilet – its super simple with a technical edge and exactly what I need.
I don’t often have to dress up in my job and spend most days in t-shirts and jeans or boardshorts, but ths Canon Denim Shirt is perfect for a night out or an awards dinner – it’s smart but chilled and looks awesome on.
The Lynton Crew is pretty cool too – it’s low-key but really warm and easy to wear. I live out of a suitcase for a lot of the year and it’s one of those great all-rounders you can always count on.
I love the Insignia Hoody. Its a bit weird to put it on a wish list as I've already got one, but I live in it so I'm not leaving it off. Its an absolute must this winter and I can highly recommend it.
And lastly, Saltrock mugs are always a good stocking filler!"
