Here at Saltrock we love Christmas Markets, they are a great place to find some unique gifts for friends and family. We thought we would give you a heads up on some Christmas markets near our stores that would be fun to visit, and give you the opportunity to pick up some great gifts, stocking fillers, treats, festive food and drink. We've created the list in chronological order, to make sure you don't miss out.
Exeter Christmas Market takes place on the Cathedral Green, right in the heart of the city centre. Seen as representing the best of the south west, the traders have a variety of goods on offer, unique handmade gifts, decorations, food, drink and crafts. It even won the Best Speciality Award 2014 from the National Association of British Market Authorities.
There are also some smaller Christmas markets within the city – in Fore Street and Castle Street. They present an opportunity to local businesses to trade who can’t commit to the long trading period of the main Christmas market, so it’s a great place to pick up some Christmas gifts from small local businesses. The Fore Street markets will be held on 26 November and 3, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 20 & 21 December. The Castle Street Markets on 26 November and 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 & 21 December.

As a part of the Christmas Lights Switch on in Lymington, there is a small Christmas market from 4-8pm with Christmas treats and gifts being sold by local traders. This is a great opportunity to pick up some unique and handmade gifts, while also enjoying the Christmassy atmosphere as the Christmas lights get switched on.

Carmarthen’s Christmas market is held in the retail and shopping area by St Catherine’s Walk. Each stallholder is housed in a traditional wooden cabin, and there will be a wide range of goods on sale, from ironwork and candles to jewellery and food produce, and they will often be unique one off, locally handcrafted goods and locally grown produce. This is a great place to come and get your Christmas gifts from small local, independent businesses.

In Swansea, the Christmas market takes place in the town centre in some popular green and red chalets – Christmas begins when the chalets go up! Here there is a massive range of products, from artisan cheese, crepes and other produce, to local welsh specialities, great craft and art items, and the very popular German swing grill will return alongside a festive Christmas bar.
While you’re in Swansea, you should also visit the indoor market – the largest indoor market in Wales, with over 100 stalls full of local produce and perfect for getting your food supplies stocked up in the run up to Christmas.

Torquay is hosting a Christmas Market this year in the city centre. With over 40 stalls with a variety of goods on sale,there will be a large number of high quality goods on sale that would be perfect for gifts this Christmas.

Padstow Christmas Festival hosts a massive Christmas Market each year. It has a firm focus around food, from hot and fresh food to sauces, preserves and other great gift ideas, to demonstrations by award winning chefs such as Michael Caines and Rick Stein. This Christmas market also has pop up stalls, craft stalls, and food and drink stalls that are perfect for Christmas shopping. This is a great event where you can enjoy some amazing food and drink, but also buy some gifts ready for Christmas.

The Christmas market is returning to Plymouth again this year. There will be over 50 log cabin style stalls, with a variety of products from across the South West that would make some great gifts this Christmas.This year there is also a new Bavarian-style bar and heated seating area, so you can sit down with a drink and soak up the atmosphere during your time shopping. There will also be a large marquee from Thursday to Sunday each week where there will be entertainment in the form of choirs and singers, ensuring you get into the Christmas spirit. Visiting the Christmas market is a great way to enjoy shopping for Christmas gifts and to get into the Christmas spirit.

Braunton is once again home to the North Devon Christmas Market this year. Running between 3pm and 9pm, the market will be home to over 100 stalls, which range from local arts and crafts, to charity stalls, and a variety of hot and fresh food. This small local Christmas market is a great place to pop along to and support the local community, while picking up some great and unique gifts this Christmas.

We have our very own new store opening in Southampton on the 3rd December! So why not come and visit our new store, and while in the area visit the Southampton Christmas Festival?
This Christmas Festival is home to a German Christmas Market. With the traditional appearance of alpine chalets and bars, there is a range of German goods, such as bratwursts, waffles, gingerbread and sweets. There are also around 40 stallholders selling a variety of gifts perfect for Christmas, and decorations. There is also entertainment in the form of musicians performing everyday, and appearances by a 'Flying Santa' - a specialist high wire artist. This Christmas market is the perfect family day out, full of good food and entertainment and the opportunity to buy lots of gifts ready for Christmas Day.
Outlaw Christmas market is a Christmas Market held in Falmouth run by Outlaw Fairs - inspired by contemporary craft fairs in America. This Christmas market, run in a 'pop-up' style, hosts 38 of the best designers, makers and producers in the South West, accompanied by live music and street food. It's the perfect place to go to find some unique handcrafted gifts from a small number of local businesses and producers in a great atmosphere.

Truro hosts a Victorian Christmas market which has been running for 12 years now, and is home to over 70 traders, producers and exhibitors that gather on Lemon Quay Piazza, in full period costume. It is split into the 'Food Hall' - with meats, cheeses, chocolates, preserves, liqueurs and everything you could want at Christmas - and the 'Arts, Crafts and Gifts Hall' - which has a range of items which are great for presents, from clothes and jewellery, to art, pottery and more. The Camborne Youth Band are also present and performing on Wednesday to Saturday to add to the Christmas spirit. This is a great traditional market where you can pick up a great range of gifts, food and drink.

Taunton is hosting a 2km ‘Santa’s on the Run’ on the 8th December, where hundreds of Santas take to the streets in order to raise money for the Childrens Hospice South West. It’s open to everyone, whether you’re an adult, child or even a pet! It’s their 25th Anniversary this year, so why not get a group together and join in?

Falmouth is home to the ‘Santa vs Elves’ fun run this year on the 10th December, where anyone can join and pick a side! Whichever side you pick you’ll be given a corresponding costume included in your participation fee, which goes towards raising money for Cornwall Hospice Care. Its great fun and gets everyone into the Christmas Spirit.

Tenby is also hosting a 3km Santa Run on the 11th December, which is an annual event arranged to raise money for local charities. They are hoping for over 200 Santas to take part this year, so why not be one of them?
If the Santa Run isn’t quite thrillseeking enough, Tenby also hosts an annual Boxing Day Swim. Last year they had around 600 swimmers, so why not join them and brave the cold? This is an event that has been running for 45 years now, and raises money for local charities and good causes.

Our very own Saltrock store in Minehead is hosting a Christmas Extravaganza on Tuesday 13th December – pop along between 6.30 and 8.30pm where our team will be on hand to help you with all your Christmas shopping needs.
Our store in Cornwall Services is hosting a Christmas Charity Evening from 6 to 9pm on Thursday 8th December. There will be a variety of forms of entertainment, from singing, to ‘guess the name of Santa’s elf’ and a post box for children to post their letters to Santa. It’s all aiming to raise awareness and funds for local charities such as West Cornwall Women’s Refuge, so please come along and join in!
