Whatever level you are at and wherever you live you can train to improve your surfing. You can train to optimise the potential of your body for the physical demands of surfing. You can train to mobilise key areas of your body which will help you in the movement sequences required. You can strengthen and protect your body to reduce likelihood of injury. All this will give you more confidence the next time you get the opportunity to surf.
This short video offers you a glimpse of three functional exercises you can do to prepare your body.
Exercise 1 works the shoulders through three planes of movement. This will reduce tension in your rotator cuffs and improve paddling performance through increased range of movement.
Exercise 2 aims to mirror a surf specific movement pattern to target mobility through the top of your spine and muscular endurance in you legs.
Exercise 3 replicates the demands of paddling, popping up, and turning on your board.
